Timeline
2022
We came across The Stables when looking for a location to start our small family business. We discovered the lovely corner plot in Nempnett Thrubwell which was the perfect size and location for our requirements.
At this time, we rented out the land to the previous owner whilst they were getting their new property ready for their horses until our horses were ready to move there.
2023
The previous owners moved out in the spring and our first two horses moved in! Our mare Luna had gone to stud at Orchid Stud based in Yeovil, so it was wonderful for her to be at The Stables in time for her foal to be born on site. She was joined by Rey who has the same father as the foal which we named Nova, as her colouring was like an explosion of stars!
We had been working with Rey getting him into the school for basic training. He now has no problem meeting new people including the vet and the farrier.
2024
In the spring, we added Delphina to the family, she is a beautiful Spanish Raza. Delphina went to Stud in the summer and is due to have her foal in June 2025. We used a new stallion called WD Arctic Rain who is a few spot appaloosa. He was recommended by the stud book of the Spanish Spotted Saddle Horses which will produce an amazing foal.
In July, we officially became a registered horse breeder for the Spanish stud book.
In the summer, we took in a temporary 6 week livery of an amazing donkey called Chocolate. Her stay was educational and the grandchildren all loved her. Everyone was sad to see her go back to her owners and we would enjoy having her back at any time.
In the autumn, we finished the cladding around the stable block, and installed new windows and doors. Rey was not impressed with the new doors as he could no longer open them as they are now bolted at the top and latched at the bottom! The old doors he found fun to open without the permission from his humans, and would then figure how to let out his partner in crime Moonlight to cause trouble!
In the late autumn, we had two horses visit us for a few months whilst they were between yards now that we had the cladding completed.
One was a 2 year old who had no concept of how big she was and would tear around the paddock like a bigger version of Rey! A part of the paddock had a temporary mud mound and she took this to be her own personal play area. This mud pile has since been removed and the two horses have now moved on to their new home and the paddock is slowly recovering!
2025
We are now working on planting some more trees around the edges of the field, sorting out the hedgerows and putting in new post and rail fencing.
In the summer of 2025, we are looking to expand the grazing with a beautiful 10 acre field in the local area for more space for the horses to roam. The logistics of this is still being worked on and will uploaded onto the website as soon as it is available. This will then enable us to bring in two more beautiful Spanish Mares that we are looking at, to increase the breeding pool at The Stables.
In June we look forward to welcoming our new Spanish foal from Delphina, with for another two foals from Luna and Moonlight in 2026 and if all goes well also foals from the two new mares.
